No evidence has been found to show that any of the postal stationery sent to the UPU had any form of specimen or equivalent protection.
The 1944 locally surcharged provisional stamps were handstamped Specimen before distribution. Apart from issues of Obock and Djibouti in 1893 and 1894, these are the only stamps of any French Colony distributed with any form of specimen protection.
